Featured College - Keene State College
Keene State College's academic roots go back to 1909 when 27 students entered to be trained as teachers for rural classrooms. Keene State College celebrated its 100th birthday in 2009!
The College is located on Main Street in Keene, New Hampshire, just a few minutes by foot from Keene's lively downtown, with its shops, offices, restaurants, and historic square at the head of Main Street. The population of Keene has grown to a 23,000 person town. It is located just 1 hour from Concord, N.H., and 2 hours from Hartford, Connecticut and Boston, Massachusetts. Downtown Keene features movies, restaurants, good shopping and a great sense of community. It sits in one of the most beautiful spots in New England.
Today the College has more than 5,000 students on its 170 acre campus and offers nearly 40 programs to study. With an 18:1 student-to-teacher ratio, students work closely with their professors as partners in the learning process. Some students come to Keene State ready to focus on a particular subject. Others take a year or two to sample the many course offerings, often choosing majors they had never imagined. Student learning often happens outside of the classroom working as partners with many organizations and business.
